Mohamed Barrie
aka the Obama has climbed on the top of theBeneficiary/Learners’ Union (BLU)of the Art Resourceful Tourism Sierra Leone’s
(ARTSL) Functional Literacy Program as he has triumphantly occupied the glorious seat of their leadership in the just concluded casting of ballots by the Beneficiary/Learners’ Union (BLU) in their Presidential election
for 2010/2011 Adult-Youth Education's academic year.
The free, fair and very peaceful democratic elections were
held on the 29th November 2010 at the Art Resourceful Tourism Sierra
Leone’s (ARTSL) Functional Literacy Center at the Kissy in Freetown.
The election is meant for the beneficiaries and learners of
the Art Resourceful Tourism Sierra Leone (ARTSL) to elect a president who can
lead their union and in another view, the election is also part of the civic
education methodology aiding to impart a knowledgeable practice of an
electioneering process and the promotion of how free and fair elections will
become value in the minds of the voters and even the loosen candidate who lost
the said election can be courageous and the society they are living in and hopeful of a future success if they can
run their horses on a better path that would lead the people towards
instituting positive change in their lives and society at large.
The
electoral commissioner,Mrs. Tamara Barrie a Swiss national
announced the result just two (2) hours after the conduct of the elections together
with two (2) Co- chairmen; PastorDavid Sarmu of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Freetown and Sheick’h Alhassan Kamara of the Masjid Mustaqeem at the Low
Cost Housing Estate, Kissy, Freetown, who represented the religious community
so to give the opportunity of communual practice of the ethicts of this
elections and to also create a balane of the religious set that is of utmost
importance for the beneficiaries of ARTSL.

The Founder and Executive Director of ARTSL, Sheka B. A.
Mansaray Jr. in his statement on the night of the elections he said; “It was the
aspiration of the beneficiaries to have been in formal education schools were
they should exercise extracurricular activities at their childhood, but for
some obvious reasons some of them could not earn formal education whiles some
did and dropped out of school. It is beyond this back drop that, the Executive
Director believed that they can still recover all those activities that they
have missed as this election is just one among others. Furthermore, he said,
“Youth-Adult learning and education is not all about becoming literate in
reading and writing, it traverses beyond to include civic education, civic
responsibilities with their rights.
The Director referred to the president elect, Mohamed Barrie
as a courageous fellow, humble and focused to his task, and could remember that
Barrie has he loses 2009/2010 elections to the outgoing president who in turn
today had lost honourably with love and fairness as he is embracing Mr. Barrie.
